What you need to know about selling
The event takes place in Hungary and is governed by Hungarian law. In the event of any difference between the two texts, the Hungarian version is the one that applies. It carries the same version number, 2026-08-27.2.
1. What this event is, and who organises it
The Solymári Garázsvásár Fesztivál is a non-profit community initiative. Its purpose is that things which have become surplus in a household, but are still usable, find a new home, and that the village community meets for a morning.
The event is organised by , who organises the sale as a private individual, voluntarily and unpaid, with no economic or commercial interest. This means that the organiser is neither a business nor an organisation: she brings the participants together as a private individual, in her own free time. She derives no income from the event, charges no participation fee, takes no commission, and takes no share of the sellers’ takings. The organiser’s role is limited to collecting the registrations, putting the locations on a map, and advertising the sale.
2. Who may be a seller
Anyone may be a seller who wishes to sell their own used belongings, originating from private use, and who has somewhere in the village to do so - typically their own yard, front garden or garage. A minor may not register on their own, only alongside a registration by a parent or guardian, and on that person’s responsibility.
Registration is not automatic: the organiser reads the registrations received one by one, and reserves the right to reject a registration without giving reasons, or to withdraw a registration already accepted, if a breach of these rules comes to light.
3. Registration, review, waiting list
Registration is open between August 27, 2026 at 10:00 and midnight on September 4, 2026. There is a deadline because the map is put together from the registrations, and only afterwards can we match those who have no place of their own with those who are happy to have someone alongside them. That is a job that can only be done properly once, in a single round.
- Registrations are assessed on the order in which they arrived and the places available. Those registering with a Solymár address have priority.
- Anyone selling in their own yard is accepted automatically. Anyone without a place, we find a place for: either in a host yard, or, if there are many in that position, at a shared location which we request from the council.
- Every registrant is notified by email by September 13, 2026 whether they are in, or on the waiting list for now.
- Those on the waiting list are called up in the order they registered, if a place becomes free.
- We cannot accept a registration from anyone who does not observe these rules, does not meet the conditions of registration, or cannot be reached after three attempts.
4. Participation fee
Free for private individuals. There is no opportunity for businesses to take part at this first festival, and for that reason you have to declare at registration that you are registering as a private individual.
5. The place and time of selling
The sale runs on Saturday, October 3, 2026, 9:00-13:00. The seller sells at the location given in their registration. You must be present for the whole of the opening hours on the day: a visitor should not find a closed gate where the map shows a location. The table, the chair, the blanket, the clothes rail and every other item of equipment are the seller’s own to provide. Setting up on public land is only permitted if the seller has obtained the necessary permission themselves.
6. The seller’s responsibility
- The seller sells in their own name and on their own responsibility.
- The seller is responsible for ensuring that the item offered is theirs, and that it may lawfully be sold.
- The seller is responsible for the condition of the item and for informing the buyer truthfully about its faults.
- The seller sets the price. Haggling is permitted; accepting an offer is not compulsory.
- The seller is responsible for the safety of their location, for good order, and for the cleanliness of the area at the end of the day.
- Paying any public charges arising in connection with the items sold is the seller’s responsibility. The organiser does not act in this and gives no tax advice.
7. Exclusion of the organiser’s liability
Beyond organising the sale, collecting the locations and advertising the event, the organiser takes no part whatsoever in the individual transactions. The organiser is not a contracting party to the agreement between seller and buyer, and accepts no liability for:
- the origin, condition, quality or proper functioning of the items offered,
- any agreement between seller and buyer, its performance, or its non-performance,
- any damage, injury, theft or disappearance occurring at the locations,
- whether payment took place, or what became of cash or an electronic transfer,
- the takings achieved by the seller on the day of the event, or the absence of them.
The organiser gives no guarantee or warranty of any kind on the items offered. In buying used items, the buyer relies on their own judgement.
8. What may not be sold
- live animals,
- weapons, ammunition, pyrotechnics and any other equipment requiring a licence,
- medicines, medicinal preparations, food supplements,
- alcohol and tobacco products,
- home-made, unpackaged food, without observing the applicable official requirements,
- counterfeit or infringing items, and items protected on collectors’ or cultural grounds,
- any item whose sale is prohibited by law or requires a licence.
The sale is not a commercial event: new goods acquired specifically for resale may not be offered.
9. Order, neighbours, noise
The seller sets up their location so that traffic on the pavement and the road can pass freely, and so that access to neighbouring properties is not obstructed. Music may only be played at a volume that does not disturb the neighbours. At the end of the day every seller takes away or puts away whatever is left, and leaves the location in the same condition as they found it.
10. Children and animals
The parent or guardian is responsible for children’s participation. A dog may only be brought to a location under supervision.
11. Weather and cancellation
The sale takes place in the open air. In bad weather the organiser may postpone or cancel the event, and will give notice of this at the email address provided and on this site. The organiser bears no obligation to compensate anyone in that case.
12. Cancelling
If a seller finds they cannot take part after all, please let us know by replying to the confirmation letter, or at . This matters so that no location is left on the map where a visitor would find a closed gate.
13. Photographs at the event
Photographs will be taken at the event, which the organiser uses to show what the sale is like and to advertise future ones, for example on the Facebook page and on this website. The organiser tries to photograph in a way that leaves individual faces unidentifiable; by taking part, however, you accept that a picture may be taken of you as well. If you are recognisable in a photograph and would rather not be, say so and we will remove it. To have a photograph removed, write to .
14. Amendment of these rules
The organiser may amend these rules. An amendment takes effect on publication and can be followed by its new version number. Registrations already received are governed by the version in force at the time of acceptance, whose number is recorded both in the confirmation letter and in the database.
