No business, no tax number and no terminal, free of charge. All it takes is your bank’s phone app. Cash stays the basis of it; this is for not losing the buyer who simply does not have enough notes on them.

qvik: a payment request from your banking app

   Open your bank's app

   At OTP: Utalás, then Pénzkérés SIMÁN. At other banks, look for the payment request or qvik menu item. The name differs from bank to bank; the thing itself is the same.

   Type in the amount

   Whatever you agreed on. You do not need the buyer's phone number, and you do not need to know which bank they use.

   Show the QR code

   A QR code appears on your phone's screen. Turn it towards the buyer. If you are using the OTP app, the code lives for five minutes.

   The buyer scans it

   The buyer scans it with their own bank's app - they can hold an account at any Hungarian bank. They see the amount and approve it.

   It has arrived

   The money is in your account within seconds, and you can see it in your app. Only hand the goods over once you have.

Revolut

   Revolut can do it too

   Since June 2026 the Revolut app has qvik as well. It works exactly as it does at the Hungarian banks: you send a payment request, and a customer of any Hungarian bank can pay it.

   Revolut's "Request money" gives you a link and a QR code. If the buyer has no Revolut account they can pay by card instead, though there are weekly and monthly limits on that.

   You have a Hungarian IBAN

   Revolut has had a Hungarian account number since 2026, so an instant transfer sent from any Hungarian bank reaches it within seconds.

If your bank's app cannot produce a QR code

Not every bank lets you start a payment request, even though every one of them can receive money. In that case the secondary identifier is the way round it.

1. Before the sale, register your phone number with your bank as a secondary identifier. It takes a few minutes and is free.
2. At the sale, you only have to say your phone number, and the buyer sends an instant transfer to it.
3. Write it on a piece of card in good large letters, so you do not have to dictate it to every buyer.
4. Under 50,000 Ft the transfer is free of duty; above that the buyer's bank may deduct a small fee.

Here it is the buyer who enters the amount, not you. Check in your app that it really has arrived before you hand the goods over.

What will not work, however much it looks as though it should

And what about tax?

Selling your own second-hand belongings counts as the sale of movable property. If what you take in from that sort of thing stays under 600,000 Ft across a whole year, there is nothing you need to do: it does not have to be declared and no tax is due on it. That holds whether you were paid in cash or by transfer.

The phone pictures are drawings, not real screenshots. Banking apps change, but the names of the menu items stay: search for „fizetési kérelem” or „qvik”. Those two are in Hungarian on purpose - that is what your app says.
